Nathaniel
“Trae” Byrd III
President & Chief Executive Officer
Trae is a Founding Member of Canon Capital Partners. Prior to founding
Canon Capital in 2006, Trae was a Vice President at the Citigroup
Private Bank were he responsible for servicing high net worth clients
($25MM net worth, $10MM liquid net worth) in the greater Baltimore
metropolitan region. Specifically, Trae led a team of private banking
specialists to accomplish client specific goals and delivered salient
financial advisory services to meet his clients’ needs.
Prior to Citigroup, Trae spent 6 years with the JPMorgan Private
Bank in the New York and Philadelphia offices. While at JPMorgan,
Trae co-founded a national practice that focused on serving the
needs of professional athletes, entertainers and the endowments
and foundations of Historically Black Colleges & Universities
(HBCU’s). During his tenure with JPMorgan, Trae was pivotal
in growing the business to over 30 clients with revenues exceeding
$1MM.
Trae has consistently been asked to deliver financial literacy presentations
by various institutions to include the National Football League
(NFL) & the National Basketball Association (NBA). Similarly,
Trae has delivered presentations to over 25 Presidents & CFOs
of HBCUs discussing the impact of investment & spending policies
on overall asset allocation. Trae has also been asked to speak on
topics ranging from global trends in wealth management to the fundamental
principals of savings and investment.
Trae received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton
School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1997.
Trae is a Series 63 registered securities representative
with the NASD and is also a member of the Board of Directors of
the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African-American History
& Culture and a Director of the McDonogh School Alumni Executive
Council.

Jarel
J. Cockburn
Vice President
Jarel presently serves as Vice President
at Canon.
Prior to Canon, Jarel co-founded Brookmill Capital Partners, a Toronto-based
management consulting and financial advisory firm, servicing firms
in construction, real estate, manufacturing and services sectors.
His responsibilities included forming and managing partnerships,
leading strategic advisory engagements, as well as capital-raising
deal support and execution. Also during that time, Jarel served
as the President of TwoFiveBlue Inc; a US based consulting services
firm established to provide strategic and technological advice to
companies in various industries including: media, financial services
and business advisory.
Prior to Brookmill, Jarel served as an analyst at Carthage Venture
Partners, now The Carthage Group, a New York City venture capital
/ private equity firm focused on investing in suppliers, partners
and divestitures of Fortune 500 companies. Jarel provided strategic
support to the fund partners in the origination, analysis, structuring
and management of investment opportunities. He was also responsible
for producing industry reports on emerging technologies.
Jarel was educated at Columbia University in New York City, where
he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science.
